It is true that solar panels are not things that you can afford to tuck away in your store room. It is true that not every house in the world gets its electricity from solar panels. There are some pains that one needs to go through, but the advantages that solar energy offers outnumber the difficulties of installation. Take a look:

No Pollution – You might say that the whole of human kind has been living with pollution for ages, why take the pains to change that. Well, we live in a polluted world and so do we face the difficulties of living with a variety of diseases. Power is usually generated from fossil fuels, so pollution is inevitable. Window fans are pretty easy to maintain and their life span increases considerably with proper maintenance. The most frequently faced problems are low speed, dirt and lack of lubrication. You can use drapes, duct tape or even paper to mask the space between joists and the fan casing. This will prevent reverse airflow and increase efficiency.

Clean Fan
Dirt can reduce efficiency. You should dismount and clean your fan every six months or so depending on the dirt and grime accumulated on it. Use diluted dish washing detergent or plain water to wipe off the grime accumulated on the blades and shaft. You can use an ear bud dipped in detergent for duct cleaning. Make sure the electrical parts are dry at all times. Use a damp cloth to wife off the detergent and let it dry completely for a couple of hours before you remount your window fan.

Lubricate Fan
If the blades are rotating slowly or with a noise, consider re – lubricating the fan. Dismount it and clean it properly, then apply grease around the drive shaft. You might have to open the casing to access that. Once lubricated, let it dry for a day to let the excess oil fumes evaporate. Now reinstall your window fan and let it keep you cool.

Application in remote areas – There are many corners of the world still waiting to be blessed with electricity. It is not always possible to arrange for miles of cables and innumerous posts to provide electricity to remote areas. Solar energy can solve the problem with localized set ups.

Grants – Many countries offer grants to set up solar panels and encourage production of solar energy. Not only can these grants offer all of the above benefits, but, one can actually sell back the power produced from solar panels to the electricity board and pay less for recurring electric bills.

Health benefits – There are many poor countries across who have many homes running on kerosene oil, candle light or light from burning animal fat. Such people suffer from a variety of ailments including pulmonary and optical disorders. Solar energy being easily available and that too at minimal expenses can not only replace a wicker lamp, but also take care of the diseases.
